Artist Statement:

The monument was erected by the Minnesota Historical Society and the Blue Earth County Historical Society. It was sculpted out of Kasota stone by Tom Miller in 1987. The monument was unveiled on December 26, 1987, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the mass execution of 38 Dakota Indians.

Location: Riverfront Drive south of Main Street, by the Blue Earth County Library

About Thomas Miller

Thomas Miller was born in Mankato in 1960 and studied art at the Laguna Beach School of Art in CA. It was there that he discovered his natural talent for stone carving. Since his graduation in 1980, he has amassed extensive professional experience in sculpting and cutting. Many of his pieces have obtained national recognition. He currently runs Monuments by Miller out of Mankato.
