I Choose Joy
Cancer recently took our sister Stephanie. Despite a dark prognosis, each day our shining light Steph looked to the hand written Post-It note affixed to her mirror; it read: “I choose joy.”
Free play has declined in our culture; when we deprive play, we cripple society. Life is not a proving ground; one can choose joy. “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation” - Plato
This piece appeared on the 2017 CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour and was purchased and donated to the Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota.
About Greg Mueller
Greg Mueller (BS Studio Art, St. John’s University, Minnesota; MFA Montana State University School of Art) also studied at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and was a 5-year studio apprentice to Minnesota Sculptor, Paul Granlund at Gustavus Adolphus College, where he also served as the Sesquicentennial Residence Sculptor during the 150th Celebration of the College. Mueller has held several academic professorships and his studio practice continues to focus on collaborative commission and teaching work on Lake Superior’s North Shore.
