Maple Seed

Nathan Johansen
Utah
Materials: Bronze
Sponsors:
North Mankato Port Authority
Selling Price: $4,100

Artist Statement:

Every year maple trees, common in Utah, produce thousands of winged seeds that develop until they are ripe and ready to fly away from the mother tree in a “whirly-bird” fashion. These seeds seek space somewhere in the earth to grow, to propagate the maple tree. Maple Seed is a sculptural expression of these seeds. The green patina suggests the promise of new life, while the brown earthy tone represents a return back to earth.
